In politics it is a mistake to believe that abuses must be remedied slowly and gradually… Timidity in either correcting abuses can only stem from two considerations: either because neither evils nor causes are well understood; or to avoid offending those who, interested in maintaining the very abuses, are therefore opposed to the common weal; to put it more clearly, those who prefer their personal interest over the good of all.
